by the way, [ Thursday December 1st, 2005 8:27pm ] Today, December 1st, is World AIDS Day, an international day to help raise awareness and support for those living with HIV. some facts from globalhealth.org and from The One Campaign:\ - every day in Africa, HIV/AIDS kills 6,600 people, 8,800 people are infected with the HIV virus and at least 1,400 newborn babies are infected during childbirth. - By 2010, it is estimated that deaths from the [HIV/AIDS] pandemic will rival those of the bubonic plague, which killed 93 million people. - In 2003 alone, a total of 2.9 million people died of HIV/AIDS-related causes. - An estimated 5 to 6 million people in low- and middle-income countries will die in the next two years if they do not receive antiretroviral treatment (ART). As of the end of 2003, only an estimated 7% who need ART were receiving it. - UNAIDS predicts that an additional 45 million people will become infected with HIV in 126 low-and middle-income countries by 2010, unless the world succeeds in mounting a drastically expanded, global prevention effort. please.. wear a ribbon; say a prayer; show your support.
